Junior Development Sessions

| 23 July 2024 | 0 Comments

The Development programme consists of three weekly sessions during school term time, organised by school year and playing ability:

Development 1: For players in school years 6 and 7

Development 2: For players in school years 8 to 12, focusing on those who are still building core skills and match experience

Development 3: Also for players in school years 8 to 12, but aimed at those who are more experienced and demonstrate stronger playing ability

This structure allows us to better tailor training to each player’s stage of development, ensuring they are challenged appropriately and supported as they progress.

All sessions will run for 1.5hrs and they will be held starting at 9am on Saturday mornings in the Sports Hall at Luckley House School, Wokingham and will benefit all those players who need to improve their core skills, such as footwork, passing and spatial awareness.  The sessions will also include game play.

While there are no formal trials for Development sessions, players will be invited to attend one or two initial trial sessions so we can assess their suitability for the program.  The coach will provide feedback after these initial sessions.  Players will be assessed through each term with an expectation they reach a minimum standard to continue.

Our experienced Development coach continuously monitors the progress of players within the Development group and works closely with the main squad coaches.  Over time, as players demonstrate consistent improvement and develop the necessary skills, they may be considered for progression to the main squads—subject to space and squad requirements. Coaches will advise when a player is ready to attend a main squad trial session. Although progression is not guaranteed, our aim is to support and prepare players for this next step when the opportunity arises.

Further details for the sessions for the Autumn term onwards will be available soon.  The first sessions will be on Saturday 6th September 2025.
