Captains’ and Team Managers’ Roles

Captain’s Role

  • During matches you should encourage your team to perform to the best of their ability and motivate them whenever necessary.
  • If a team member becomes injured/unwell during a match, the Captain should alert an umpire and request that the player receives treatment or leaves the court.
  • Remind the team, from time to time, of the rules of conduct and good gamesmanship.
  • If after any match you have had any problems with a team member you should follow the code of conduct in the first instance.
  • It is your responsibility to communicate with the Team Manager to ensure that the kit bag, complete with first aid kit (fully stocked), bibs and balls, is taken to every match and to make sure that everything is replaced in the bag at the end of each match.
  • If you are unable to play, please give as much notice as possible so that a suitable temporary captain can be appointed for a match.

Team Manager’s Role

  • Contact all the members of your squad to check availability of all the players for the weekend’s matches two weeks in advance of each fixture.
  • Notify the Coach of all players’ availability two weeks in advance of each fixture.
  • Notify the Coach if any of your squad’s players cannot make training.
  • Ensure that all squad players turn up to the right venue and at the right time.
  • Ensure that all squad players have the correct kit.
  • You will need to organise scorers for each match and liaise with the umpiring secretary to confirm Umpire’s name and any payment requirements.
  • If any of the squad have any queries, they should be addressed to you in the first instance.
  • You are responsible for the completion of team sheets and match reports.
