FIXTURE (both team names): WOKINGHAM BLUES vs SEQUENCE 1
RESULT: 42 / 32

10/9 Such a close first quarter each centre pass was matched goal for goal. With both teams fighting hard knowing the game can go either way – especially with our GA’s away and having Jo Robinson standing in to play with Kelly in the circle, all of this was helped greatly by the great feeding into the circle to Jo and Kelly from Jenny Atmore at WA.

22/16 With the first quarter done and dusted Wokingham went onto the court determined to pull away and start making a gap and this certainly happened with the great defence in the Circle. With Hayley Blackwell as Keeper and Rachel Walker (filling in another gap due to sickness on the team) as GD, some great rebounds and interceptions made turning the ball over and getting it back down the court easier to score those much needed goals to stay in the lead.

32/24 What a dynamic quarter with the court defence working really well with Becky Turnbull (as ever the tireless Centre) and Nadia Churton-Blackie at WD putting lots of pressure on the edge of the circle to bank on Sequence making errors in haste and under pressure. Some of the great interceptions and tips that were made this way were certainly what the team needed at this point to stay convincingly in the lead especially with Jo and Kelly working and dominating the shooting circle with great team work and movement in order to score more goals to pull the Blues out into a clear cut lead.

42/32 Fourth and final quarter – the whole of Blues not only worked hard but tirelessly and in the end the fitness and team moral showed through with everyone working right to the last whistle, to ensure the win we all wanted most especially Rachel Walker. Though she has not played with us before she rose to the occasion and played an amazing defence game! So much so that she was voted as Player of the match by Sequence. Great stuff Rach (watch this space Defence players!)

1: 13/5 What a way to start the Match – straight out from the first centre – gaining the first goal with Kelly and Tracey in the shooting circle and some lovely passing coming in from Bex at centre and Jenny at WA.
2: 23/12 Making a few changes at quarter time – Claire Jameson subbed in for Nadia at keeper and Christa went onto play GA. Yet another great quarter with defence bringing the ball down the court and attack setting up well and ready for the balls before feeding into our circle. Good defence work with Kirsty at WD – getting some great tips and interceptions around the circle proving too strong for Woodley.
3: 35/15 With more changes going on this quarter – which involved Kelly changing around to GK and Nadia coming into GD, leaving GS for Tracey to play. Also with Jenny & Kirsty doing a straight swap for their WA & WD bibs– the combinations were flowing & proving very effective as Woodley only managed to sink 3 goals in this quarter with Wokingham dominating the play right through the court – sadly right after a great interception by Kirsty as she landed she injured her knee, meaning Charlotte Wicks was bought into WD and Jenny was back at WA.
4: 47/24 Going into the last quarter Christa and Tracey – both down in the circle were not only moving well and getting lots of great passes from Bex and Jenny but the work between the shooters and their passing was great and Woodley defence found them hard to keep up with.
Woodley subbed in a player to GS for this last quarter trying to get around Kelly and Nadia in the circle but this still proved in-effective especially with Charlotte and Bex keeping the pressure up on the circle edge!

Player of the match - voted by Woodley was: Tracey Carter

1: 8/4 Blues went out with the first centre pass and took it all the way to get the first goal!
Hayley (GK) and Charlotte (GD) settled into a great duo down in defence, fighting hard and winning back through tips and rebounds extra and much needed balls for the attackers Kelly (GS) and Tracey (GA) to score with. Though Wokingham were on top at the end of the quarter – it was very much a game of fighting for possession – hence the initial low score on both sides.

2:15/12 Going out into the second quarter with Jenny Atmore at C and Kirsty at WA, they fought hard bringing the ball down the court, looking after it getting it into the goal circle, though with the wind howling through the court several goals went astray – leaving it to be another close quarter.

3: 24/17 Heading back on the court you could see Wokingham’s determination to get going and start making their efforts turn into a gap and lead that meant business!!!
Having subbed on Christa to (GS) and Becky Turnbull from WD to C, there was a lot of movement down the attacking end especially in the circle, and the Woodley defence soon realised their work was cut out for them, with Wokingham streaming ahead to a 7 goal lead buy the end of the quarter.

4:33/20 Wow what a quarter for Wokingham - their fitness certainly showed and romped home in this quarter with amazing defence and lots of tips and Interceptions from Jenny at WD as Woodley tried unsuccessfully to get the ball down to their end of the court!
The shots from Christa and Tracey were proving undeterred (even with tall Jo from Woodley looming over them) and the combination with Hayley and Charlotte proved to be formidable as it was 9 minutes into the quarter before Woodley got their first goal scored!

Player of the match - voted by Woodley was: Becky Turnbull. ‘Great stuff Bex’

12/09/09 WOKINGHAM BLUES vs SEQUENCE 2
Result: 30 / 30

1: 7/9 Right from the first whistle both teams were fighting to get the lead. Being the first game into the season it took us a few minutes to settle down having Kirsty as WA and Becky as C, they kept a strong attacking end coming down the court, feeding the balls into both Tracey as GA and Kelly as Shooter. Though Sequence managed to take the lead for the first quarter by 2 goals.

2: 16/18 Again another tight quarter with sequence managing to keep the 2 goal lead and Blues not letting them get any further away. Having made no changes to the team, Tracey and Kelly settled down into a routine in the circle with Kelly making some good moves and holding space nicely to get the much needed goals in. With the defence zone coming from attack towards defence proving to not hold Sequence back, Blues switched to a more manageable ‘man-on’ defence technique and any balls heading down towards sequence attacks were readily met with by both Hayley at GK and Nadia at GD, not only were they hungry for the re-bounds but Hayley followed the GS out for any interceptions she could!

3: 23/25 The Blues defence proved to hold up nicely going into the 3rd quarter with Jenny Atmore at WD proving not only that she had a good eye for the ball but gaining Blues several interceptions with her quick moves in the centre 3rd and around the edge of the circle. With Ellen having subbed on as a fresh pair for legs in GA to give Tracey a rest, Blues continued to hold strong and not let Sequence get any further away.

4: 30/30 The last and final quarter proved a strong one for Blues with them having a high percentage of possession through out and managing to come straight on the court and gaining the advantage of being the younger side to turn the ball over and gain 5 goals against Sequences to then take a 3 goal lead at the beginning of the quarter. Defence held strong with Hayley, Nadia and Jenny proving no one was getting an easy shot at goal, and then with every ball turned over taking it carefully down the court and helping feed the attack end so as to concentrate on getting the Ball into both Ellen as GA and Tracey as GS.
Sequence did manage to get a couple of great interceptions with their Centre being the star here – enough for them in the end to make it a draw of 30 all. What a way to start the season!!!!!
